Wordpress claimed to be the best CMS (Content Management System) around for bloggers, while wordpress is very easy to use, there are still some major wordpress errors that can be frustrating sometimes.

There are some problems facing wordpress users which can easily be solved one step at a time by applying simple troubleshooting. You know when somebody is injured, it is very common for such victim to undergo first-aid before taken to the hospital. Same applies to us (Bloggers)

In this tutorial, I will be showing you guys how to fix some common wordpress errors like “wordpress not sending e-mail issue, Rss error, wordpress keeps logging out problem, and many other major wordpress errors, with this basic troubleshooting tricks.

Let’s get to the lecture room!

🔺Precaution: Make complete backup of your wordpress site before taking any of below steps.

Backup is the first priority for every webmasters as it plays a very vital role in keeping your site running and avoids data losses and security threats.

In case anything goes wrong while you are working in the root server of your site or while you are trying to access your site admin area, backup helps you restore your site very easily.

Basic Troubleshooting For All Wordpress Error (First Aid)

1. Turn On Wordpress Debugging

Debugging is a very wise step to take whenever you discover your wordpress site is malfunctioning or out of order. By enabling debugging, it is much easier to locate any errors within your WordPress site.

Wordpress debugging has this default or let me call it inbuilt logging feature that will register all errors that occurs to a site. Wordpress debugging can always be turned on through wp-config.php file, all you need to do is to add a little script to this file and you will be showed where and what kind or error your site is encountering.

And if you don’t want to get your hands dirty by adding scripts or interrupting your site, there is one tool-site that can do that for you. WPBackitup logging is a tool that helps make a record of every operation that is being performed during the backup and restore processes.

To do this, read how to turn on wordpress debugging and detect hidden error.

2. Disable All Installed Plugin

Plug-in deactivation is a common wordpress troubleshooting tactics used by users, and it has been proved to solve major wordpress error in average cases.

It is the fact that some plugins may obstruct with other plugins or theme and cause your WordPress site not to load correctly. In such case, the common troubleshooting practice applies is to disable all of your WordPress plugins.

Some errors caused by plug-in are liable to be critical in which it may prevent user to access dashboard, but one might be in luck sometimes, if so you can access your wordpress site admin area, you can simply head over to plug-in tab and deactivate all plugin at once.

If this action resolves the issue, then you'll need to enable each plugin individually and test your site until you figure out which particular plugin is causing the problem.

If you can’t access your dashboard, then you will have to make the most out of FTP client such as FileZilla to rename your plugins folder which will disable all of your plug-ins.

3. Revert or Switch To Default Theme

Regardless of the cost of theme, any theme including custom theme could be the cause of problem to your website, theme restoration or switching of theme to default is among the first-aid given to wordpress site for troubleshooting.

To revert to default wordpress theme, all you need to do is go to wordpress dashboard (If you have the access) and head to appearance tab then navigate Theme and click activate.

If you do not have access to WordPress dashboard, you can disable your theme by FTP as well. Once you are connected via FTP with an FTP client such as FileZilla, you then will navigate to your themes folder. Rename your current theme and WordPress will automatically revert to the default theme.

Or you should hook up to your website using an FTP client and then click /wp-content/themes/ folder. Remember to download your active theme as to play safe mode (Backup).

After you’ve successfully downloaded your current theme, then you need to delete all themes except a default WordPress theme like TwentySixteen or Rowling. WordPress will then automatically switch to using the default theme available.

If your theme was the cause of the matter, then you should be able to log in to your WordPress site now.

4. Make Backup And Delete .htaccess File

This is sound crazy right! But it’s worth it. When you exploited all other methods to fix a particular problem, and yet you didn’t get it solved, so why not find out from the root server! The only caution I will like to preach is to always make sure you download the .htaccess before deletion.

A corrupt .htaccess file is reported time and again to be the cause of the internal server error.

First thing you need to do is to connect to your website using an FTP client. Note that, the .htaccess file is situated in your site’s root directory.

Given that it is a hidden file, you may need to force your FTP client to show hidden files. After you have seen it, you need to download the .htaccess file to your computer as a backup, and then delete it from your web server.

Then, you can now attempt to login to your WordPress site and go to Settings » Permalinks page. Click on the Save Changes button to refresh your permalinks and to regenerate a new .htaccess file for your site.

5. Run Website For Malware

Malware infection can also cause a website not to work correctly, running a website for malware can be charmingly help if you apply it appropriately.

There are lots of software and free online tools that can easily help you scan your wordpress site for malware. Tool like Sucuri is one of the best I have used so far.

After you have scanned your site with malware tool, then check back if the problem resolves, it is then obvious that the issue is right from malwares.
