Effective And Must-do SEO Tips That Improve Your Blogger Blog

Please, follow all the below SEO steps carefully as it might look a little bit technical especially to beginners. But trust me, am going to split it in way which even a kid of 5 years old can comprehend.

I hope we are good to dive deep in!

#1. Submit your website To Search Engines

The first and yet essential Seo for all websites is its submission to search engines. No matter how responsive and beautiful your site could be, no matter how great the contents in it, no matter how much you have spent on it, if you are yet to submit it to some popular search engines like google, bing, ask, and Yandex, then, there is no doubt in stagnancy of that particular web page and also it is a clear sign of wasting your precious time and effort as you won't get any organic traffic. while organic traffic is the best traffic source that can give you everything and organic traffics are worth to rely on.

Submission of a website to search engines plays a vital role in your blogging SEO scheme. It simply allows search engines to notice your new website and they will start crawling and indexing your contents as soon as possible.

There is no way google or bing can know when you just launched a new website unless you create awareness by submitting your site to them.

And I have come with the easiest way of submitting your site to search engines, which will definitely enable your blog visibility on the search engine. I will show you guys how to perfectly submit your blog to two most popular search engines which are google and bing.

So just follow below steps.

Submit your site to google:

type this keyword to google “submit website to google” and hit search button or you can make it simple by following this link. submit url . it leads straight to google search console where you will be able to submit your website.

SETUP: when you’ve followed the above link, you are going to land on a page that looks like below screenshot.

Then type in your website url in the open box, and tick “I am not a robot box”, you might need to perform recaptcha to confirm you are truly not a robot, once you do all that, I am pleased to tell you that your website or blog has been successfully submitted to one of the major search engines on the internet (google).

Submit your site to bing:

follow this link to bing webmaster page, where you will be able to submit your site, then you will be asked to login to your Microsoft account,

After you’ve successfully logged in, you will be provided an empty box where you will need to type your website url in, go ahead and type in your site’s homepage url and hit submit. This might be a little bit tricky especially if you are not that savvy with html and coding stuff. But I actually committed my services, where by you can actually ask me in the comment what you are struggling with regarding this tutorial.

Note: it might take up to 2 or 4 weeks before your site could be indexed, but it depends on how fast google bots crawl your site as it can take lesser or much time more than you expected. Sometimes, your site might not get indexed at all for some reasons, I know it is an error, just wait for at least 4 weeks, then if the error persists, then, go ahead and resubmit it.

#2. Set Meta Tags Of your Website.

The second important step in this SEO guide is to set your website or blog’s Meta tags, setting your blog Meta tags are included your blog description, custom page not found, custom redirect and also crawling and indexing of your site.

SETUP: login to your blogger dashboard and navigate setting > search preference at the bottom left corner of your dashboard, just like below screenshot.

After you’ve navigated setting down to search preference, then you will start by enabling the options and filling them appropriately.

The first option on the search preference setting is description setting: This feature will quickly let search engine users know whether your site is the right place to browse result for their search. Because when people search your website on search engine like google, your site description will be placed under your blog url and will be visible to the public, so by setting your blog description, you are making your site convenient for the readers. See screenshot below to have an idea of how your site’s description is going to look like in google search engine.

Now, click edit in front of description label, and tick enable, after you’ve enabled the description, you will be asked to type in your blog description inside the displayed box. It is going to look like this.

Go ahead and type in your blog description, note your blog description should ideally contain only the keywords that best describe your blog, write your description briefly and which people can quickly read and understand what your blog is all about. And also your blog description should be exactly and not more than 150 characters as it has been stated as p.s just below the description box. Check my blog description screenshot above as aguide.

the next setting in search preference is errors and redirection leave this part as they have come very good by default, unless you actually want to play with code by making your blog stand out. For instance your custom page not found was the page that will be shown to your visitor if the page they wanted to view is existing no more and it has come very perfect with default but you can change it to give your 404 page a professional look.

#3. Set crawler and indexing.

If you notice, when you get to this part of search preference setting on your blog, you will discover that google has stated it there, that if you really want to make changes to this part of setting, you should always be extra careful as a little slight mistake can make google totally ignore your site.

Now, that this part of setup requires extra caution, then, maybe we should leave it, but NO, you cant leave as it is the very important part which you need to set. If you are able to set this, you can tell google how you want your blog to be indexed, you can dictate which page to be indexed or not, you can also submit your blog sitemap via this setup. So with all these advantages attached to this part of setup, you have no point to let it go. I know you are so afraid of losing your site completely from search engine like google visibility, but, I promised, there will not be any error only if you follow below steps accordingly.

The first option to set on crawler and indexing is search console, go ahead and click edit right in front of search console, you will land on search console page and it’s going to look like this.

When you land on that page, the next thing you are going to do is to add your blog url, they call it property according to google, so just go ahead and type in your blog url then hit add property button on the top right corner with red box. And you are done, though there are still many works to do with google search console, but for now, let’s just do the basics.

The second option on crawler and indexing is setting of custom robot, at this point, you need to be more focused as any unnoticed mistakes could hurt your blog crawling and indexing on search engine.

So just follow the steps below carefully and there shall be no problem.

Now click edit right in front of custom robot.text option, then hit enable, when you hit enable, just leave the page like that and open another tab in your browser, in that new tab, copy and paste this url: http://ctrlq.org/blogger/  and hit enter.

What we are doing here is to generate your blog xml sitemap, so that you will be able to submit it to google, that sitemap is going to contain all your website pages and posts. If you want to know more about sitemap read this post : what is a sitemap and why do you need one

Now, when you have copied and paste the above url, you will land on a page where you will be able to generate xml sitemap for your website, the page is going to look like this.

So, just go ahead and type in your site’s url and don’t forget to include http such as http://www.yourdomain.com/ and click generate sitemap button.

Then, you will see something like below screenshot.

copy the xml sitemap starting from user agent as shown in the above screenshot, then go back to your search preference setting on your blogger dashboard, paste in the xml sitemap you copied from sitemap generator and click save.

Note: this type of sitemap is going to work for maximum of 500 post, when your post in the future increased more than 500, you will need to add another sitemap.

The third option on crawler and indexing is custom robot header tag. Custom robot header tags allow you to communicate with google crawler and spider on a specific method in which you want them to use to crawl your site. If you need better explanation about custom robot header, a friend wrote a beautiful post on it check it out.  custom header robot in blogger

To set custom robot header tags, click edit right in front of it, and tick enable to give you access to configure it and fill it like below screeshot. And you are done.

By doing according to all the above steps, you’ve taken the most important part of blogger SEO, now for advance search engine optimization, you will need to submit your xml sitemap you just generated to google. You are wondering how to do that? Just follow below steps.

Login to your search console account, once your gmail account is active on that browser, you will be automatically login to your search console dashboard. Or to reduce the stress, follow this link: google search console, you will land on your google search console dashboard.

When you are on the dashboard, navigate on your property, which is your site url we have submitted earlier in this tutorial. See below screenshot.

After you have navigated that your site url, you will land on a page, on that page, look at the left side of and click crawl and in the drop-down option click sitemap. See below screenshot.

On that page, click ADD/TEST SITEMAP at the top right corner of the screen with red box, inside the displayed empty box, type this: sitemap.xml and hit submit button.

You still going to click add/test sitemap once again and copy and paste this: atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500 and hit submit button. And you are finally done.

Next step to take is to verify both www and non-www version of your website and choose one preferred version between the two. To do that, I have prepare a master guide on how to verify both version of your website and set preferred domain on google search console.

So thank you for reading this tutorial, I hope you can follow these steps and implement it, if there is anything or any where you have felt lost and confused, do not wait for another time to pinch me up.
